It's whale shark season in Oman

Here's what you need to know if you want to see them...

It's that time of the year when whale sharks are seen in Oman's waters.

Rachel Chew who is on air weekdays 4-7pm managed to catch a glimpse of them recently by the Dimaniyat Islands, watch her video here:

Here is what you need to know if you're planning on going out on a boat to see them.

Whale sharks are filter feeders and can neither bite nor chew so you are in safe hands swimming near them.

You should not touch the whale sharks. Swimming alongside a whale shark is fine, however touching them will damage the protective mucus layer that protects the animal against bacteria and parasites which can disrupt their natural behaviour and cause them stress.

When swimming with these beautiful creatures you should not swim at the head, tail, above, or below. Position yourself at the side and behind the whale shark's pectoral fin, NOT in front of it or at its head or tail. Do not restrict the movement or behavior of the whale shark. DO NOT feed the whale sharks or other wildlife.

Have fun sea lovers!
